Keaton Rides Wave of Momentum to Martinsville

Barboursville, WV (October 2, 2013) – Jake Keaton enters Sunday’s Virginia is for Racing Lovers 300 fresh off a victory at Franklin County Speedway.  The victory, Keaton’s third of the season, gives Keaton extra confidence entering the race as he hopes to accomplish his goals of making the race and challenging for a top-20 finish.

“I think we can make the race.  That’s obviously our main goal.  We’d like to get a top 20.  A top 10 would be absolutely amazing.  A top-20 would be really good for us.”

Keaton has three wins on the season with his most recent coming last Saturday night at Franklin County Speedway in Callaway, Virginia.  He also has wins at Lonesome Pine Raceway in Coeburn, Virginia and Ona Speedway in Ona, West Virginia.

“Any time you can get a win and go to another race like that, you’ve got confidence and it’s good,” Keaton explained.  “We haven’t had as many wins and the finishes we wanted.  We didn’t get the finishes at Hickory and Motor Mile but the win at Franklin County gives us confidence going in to Martinsville for sure.”

Keaton has attempted to make the field at Martinsville once before but hopes he can make it in this time.

“I ran there back in 2006 and we didn’t make the show then,” Keaton remarked.  “We missed by one or two spots.”

Keaton will be running a Ford Crate motor and recorded fast laps in testing last Wednesday.  Practice and qualifying, which will set the field for four qualifying heat races, will be run on Saturday.  The green flag will drop on the heat races on Sunday at noon and will set the field for the 200-lap feature which will go green shortly after.  RACE22.com will have Live Coverage of the race.

Keaton Wins First Franklin County Start

BARBOURSVILLE, WV :: Jake Keaton scored a victory in his first trip to Franklin County Speedway in Callaway, Virginia on Saturday night after recording the fastest qualifying lap.  Keaton’s win came in the first of two twin races.  He finished second in the second race.

Keaton unloaded with the fast car, recording a 14.09 second lap in time trial qualifying.  He started third in the first Late Model feature after an invert. Keaton worked his way up to second on the first lap.  Keaton reeled in the race leader and challenged for the lead for several laps while also facing pressure from behind.  Keaton finally took possession of the lead on lap 29 and went on to win the race.

“It’s pretty awesome,” Keaton said.  “We had a great car.  We came here our first time and didn’t know how we were going to do.  I was actually really surprised by how well we did.  I’m really happy with it.  It was a fun race.  Everybody drove clean.  It was a good time.  It’s a lot of fun here.”

After winning the first race, Keaton had to start the second race in the sixth position in accordance with track rules.  Keaton rocketed to the second position in the first lap of the race and spent much of the race trying to pass the race leader before seeing a challenge from a competitor for third.  Keaton fought to hold on to the runner-up position and that’s where he would finish at the end of the race.

“A win and a second, that’s not too bad,” Keaton explained.  “We’re pretty happy with that.  I think we may have used up the car just a little bit in that first race.  We had a really good time out here tonight.  It was a lot of fun.”

Keaton’s win on Saturday night was his third win of the season.  Keaton scored victories at Ona Speedway in West Virginia on May 25th at and Lonesome Pine Raceway in Coeburn, Virginia on July 20th.  Keaton has nine top-five finishes on the 2013 season at several tracks in various types of cars.

Jake Keaton’s next race will be on Sunday, September 6th when he attempts to compete in the Virginia is for Racing Lovers 300 at Martinsville Speedway.  The action gets under way with heat races at 12pm and the main event after the race.  RACE22.com will have Live Coverage of the race.

Jake Keaton Victorious in First Trip to Lonesome Pine

BARBOURSVILLE, WV :: Jake Keaton made his first trip to Lonesome Pine Raceway in Coeburn, VA a memorable one on Saturday night by clocking the fastest lap in qualifying and winning one of two Late Model features.

Keaton was the fastest qualifier on the day.  The track sets the field for the first race by the first lap and the second race by the second lap after the pole winners roll a dice to determine what the invert will be.  Keaton won the pole for the second race and rolled a two on the dice, moving him to a second place starting spot.  There was no invert for the first race when the pole sitter for that race rolled a one on the dice, which he started third in. He battled a tight handling racecar in the first race, managing to finish in second.

“We were great all day,” said Keaton. “We were really fast in practice and qualifying.  We were the overall fastest qualifier.  I started third and got up to second in the first race.  I got out front in the restarts and led a couple laps but the car was just too tight.”

Keaton started second in the second race and rocketed to the lead on the first lap, leading the race wire-to-wire to bring home the victory, his second Late Model Stock Car victory of the season and his first at Lonesome Pine Raceway.

“The car was good in the race.  We were tight in the center.  We got out front on the first lap, led every lap and won it.  Next time out, if we can get the tightness out, we can be pretty good.”

Keaton does intend to return to Lonesome Pine Raceway.  His next race will either be on July 27th at Motor Mile Speedway or August 3rd at Lonesome Pine Raceway.

Jake Keaton Prepares for Portsmouth, Anxious for Hickory Return

BARBOURSVILLE, WV :: Jake Keaton is eyeing a return to Hickory Motor Speedway while preparing to run on July 4th at Portsmouth Raceway Park in Ohio. Keaton’s last race on the asphalt side was a successful one when he picked up the win at Ona Speedway in West Virginia on May 25th.

“We’re waiting to get our motor back for our Late Model for Hickory,” said Keaton.  “We’ve been refreshing it since that win.  It was an exciting win for us.  There’s some good competition at Ona.  Our guys worked really hard and gave me a really good car.  We started second and got out front on the first lap and led every lap.  It was just an awesome race for us.”

Keaton’s next race will likely be on July 4th at Portsmouth Raceway  Park in Ohio.  Last time Keaton raced there, motor problems in the heat race forced him to retire early.

“We had a new front clip put on our modified and just got it back last Monday,” said Keaton.  “We put it all back together and went to Portsmouth. We had motor problems in the heat race and came home. Hopefully we will get it back together and go racing this weekend.”

Keaton is planning on racing more at Hickory Motor Speedway in the second half of the 2013 season.

“As soon as we get our late model motor back, we’ll get back to racing it,” Keaton remarked.  “I’m just not sure when that will be right now.  We’re hoping it will be in the next few weeks.  I think the second half of the season is going to be much better than the first.”

Keaton has been running races in both a Late Model Stock Car on the asphalt side and a Modified on the dirt side.  He has one win, three top five finishes and five top 10 finishes so far in 11 starts on the season.  His next race will be on July 4th at Portsmouth Raceway Park.

Keaton Off to Consistent Start to 2013

BARBOURSVILLE, WV :: Rolling out a brand new Performancenter Racing Warehouse (PRW) Chassis at Southern National Motorsports Park last weekend for the first of “The Dirty Dozen” twin races and in a single 100-lapper at Hickory Motor Speedway this past weekend, Jake Keaton and team are still trying to get the bugs worked out of the new car. With finishes of 15th and 18th at Southern National and a finish of 16th at Hickory, Keaton knows that he has a car capable of competing with the front runners but also knows he has room for improvement.

“No one goes to the track to finish 15th or 16th,” said Keaton following the 100-lap race at Hickory. “We’re going each week to win races but I also know that we’ve got things to work on with this new car. We’ve got to get it right and honestly I’ve got to get back in the swing of things on asphalt after spending last season on dirt.”

Keaton and his team plan to return to Hickory this weekend, March 16th for the second leg of the ten race ZLOOP Big 10 Challenge Series. Keaton and his crew led by crew chief Jeremy Williamson will be looking to improve and crack the top 10 as they continue to build their notebook for future races.

“We’re going to continue to get this car better and I’m going to continue to knock the rust off,” laughed Keaton. “We know we’ve got one of the best chassis’ in the business and we’re learning. I think we’ll be in the top 10 this weekend and we’ll be in the top five before you know it competing for wins.”
